Erasmo Rodriguez-Castaneda

Background
Erasmo Rodriguez-Castaneda (professionally known as Erasmo Rodriguez) is a music educator, composer, arranger, and program builder with over 18 years of experience working across K–12 and professional music environments.
Focus
His work sits at the intersection of performance, composition, curriculum development, and arts leadership—developing programs that connect traditional music education with modern creative fields such as digital music production, game audio, and music technology.
Leadership
As a director, he has led and expanded music programs of varying sizes, from rebuilding and growing developing programs to overseeing one of the largest high school music programs in San Diego County. His approach emphasizes systems thinking—aligning curriculum, staffing, facilities, and community engagement into cohesive, sustainable structures.
Composition
In addition to his work in education, Erasmo is an active composer and arranger whose music has been performed by ensembles across the United States, Japan, and Taiwan. His compositions are used at multiple levels, from educational settings to advanced performance ensembles, often blending contemporary techniques with strong pedagogical value.
Philosophy
His teaching and creative work are grounded in real-world application—preparing students not only as performers, but as creators, collaborators, and thinkers in today's evolving music landscape.
Building programs and music that outlast the moment.
These are instrumental works — no lyrics, no filler. They exist because writing music is how I process the things that don't fit into words: transition, loss, persistence, and the quiet work of becoming.
The same honesty I bring to composition is what I ask of students in the classroom.
A meditation on introspection and the journey inward — exploring the spaces between silence and sound, tradition and innovation.
Tracks
Music written for the in-between — the moments before arrival, when you are still carrying everything you've survived. Cinematic in texture, grounded in lived experience.
Tracks
A large ensemble jazz work written during my final studies at CSU Fullerton. Premiered and later performed at the university level, including a performance by Cal State University Sacramento conducted by Steve Roach, the piece explores harmonic motion, sectional dialogue, and dynamic contrast within a modern big band setting.

Game Audio & Interactive Media
Music that bridges composition with interactive media and sound design.
An original game audio cue written on February 24, 2024 during my graduate studies at Southern Utah University. This project explores cinematic orchestral writing combined with modern sound design, created as an exercise in scoring to picture and building immersive, interactive-style music.

Good music education isn't just about notes and techniques. It's about giving students real creative tools, meaningful experiences, and a reason to keep going. The programs I build are designed around that principle — practical, student-centered, and built to outlast any single school year.
From digital music labs to performance stages, the work spans curriculum design, ensemble direction, and long-term program architecture.
Students learn to produce, compose, and design sound using industry-standard tools. The focus is on real creative output — not just technical proficiency. From beat-making to cinematic scoring, the work is hands-on and student-driven.
Ensemble work builds discipline, listening, and collective responsibility. These programs develop musicians who can hold their part while hearing the whole — skills that transfer far beyond any stage.
Curriculum is only as good as its infrastructure. Building a music program means creating pathways — for beginners, advanced students, and everyone in between. The goal is a program that runs, grows, and lasts after you leave the room.
Every student who walks out with a skill they didn't have before — that's the work.
Connection & Real-World Impact
Community isn't a buzzword here. It's the actual work — being present, building trust, and creating the conditions where people can do something real together. Music is the vehicle. Connection is the destination.
Showing up consistently for students and emerging educators who need someone in their corner — not a program, just honest, reliable presence.
Working across schools, organizations, and disciplines to build projects where different people bring different strengths — and everyone leaves with more.
From studio showcases to larger productions, these are the moments students and communities remember — proof that the work is real.
Building environments where students feel seen and their backgrounds are an asset. That sense of belonging is what makes everything else possible.
The people in the room are never just an audience — they're the reason the room exists.
